Week 5 - November 17, 2020

This week at Seekers we continued our synagogue unit by exploring prayer. 

In Anavim with Stephanie, we learned about how the evening Temple-time burnt offering turned into the ma'ariv service. We practiced how we might  "offer up the ashes of our day" and then how we might "offer up the ashes of our week" on shabbat. We also practiced the Friday night Shabbat candle lighting blessing.

One Anavim student commented, "Cool so it's like we let go of stuff from this week and wish for things next week."  Another student added, "next week I wish for hope!...and pasta!" 

In Rimonim with Leilah, we talked about prayer. One student had the thoughtful comment, "hearts are often involved, like you love the bread at shabbat." Another student said, "I feel like it honors God."

To open up the concept of what prayer was, Leilah showed the Rimonim class a video of her dancing and singing some Jewish liturgy from the High Holidays. Feel free to check it out:
