October 18, 2021 - First Day of Seekers - Kehilah Kedosha!

Welcome Back!
We were so thrilled to see all of our Seekers students return to the building on Monday. The return to in person learning has reinvigorated the spirit of Seekers, and we cannot wait to continue the year with all of our wonderful students.

To start the year off we are beginning a unit focussed on social, emotional learning and creating a classroom community. Our students discussed the meaning of Kehilah Kedosha, a holy community and how to create them within their classes. In Arielle's class, Anna named that Romemu was her holy community, and each student in the class created illustrations of the holy communities that they belonged to. Tali's class discussed the different middot (Jewish values) that are important to hold in a family. The class then discussed which middot were important to building a Kehilah Kedosha in the classroom. Mira wrote about the importance of honoring each others' differences, while Hazel emphasized the Golden Rule: Treat others the way you would like to be treated.

In Grace's class, the students learned about creating a Kehilah Kedosha through song! Raphael, Charlie, and Kuba created a dance move for the line "each one of us must do the work" by pretending to lift very heavy weights for one another. Romy and Clara interpreted the lyrics "each one of us must sing the song" by collaboratively tapping their feet together and then breaking into some improv dance moves!
In Leilah's class, the students discussed the importance of learning Hebrew. One student identified that learning Hebrew helps us preserve our history while another noticed that we use Hebrew to communicate with our families, Israelis, and other Jews around the world. Leilah also worked with the students to learn Hebrew through movement as a way to engage our whole bodies in learning.
The day flew by, and before we knew it, it was already time to go home! We cannot wait to see what the year will hold for us. See below to watch Grace's class sing and dance about what it means to build a Kehilah Kedosha.
