December 13th, Tefillah as a Community!
This week at Seekers we continued our unit on prayer. Our students had the unique opportunity to come together for a school-wide ma'ariv (evening) service. Each class was assigned a prayer to learn and lead. Led by our wonderful teachers Arielle Stein and Grace Hack, every class came up to the front to teach the community the prayer they had learned. You can watch the entire service here.
Grace's class led the Bar'chu also known as the call to prayer. Romy said that we recite the Bar'chu all together at the beginning of the service so that everyone who is praying together can become a Kehilah Kedoshah (holy community). Go to 3:08 to hear Grace's class lead the Bar'chu.
Arielle's class followed, and lead the school in Sh'ma. The class has been practicing this prayer since the beginning of the year through weekly meditations. The prayer is one of the most important prayers in the Jewish tradition. To hear Arielle's class lead the Sh'ma got to 5:50.
Adira's class followed with the Ve'ahavta. Adira teaches our B Mitzvah students, so these students are hard at work learning many of the prayers in a Shabbat Morning service. They led the Seekers community in the Ve'ahavta, a prayer that teaches us ways to show our love to God. To hear Adira's class, go to 8:07.
Leilah's class followed with a beautiful Mi Chamocha. Mi Chamocha is all about being in awe and wonder of God. Leilah's class learned the Shir Yaakov Mi Chamocha tune, one that we use in our Romemu Services. You can hear Leilah's class lead at 10:10.
Finally, Tali and Leilah's class wrapped up the service with an invigorating Oseh Shalom. A prayer asking for peace. The students rejoiced in song and dance together. It was wonderful to watch them lead the rest of the school in doing so. You can watch Tali and Leilah's class at 19:33.
Watching the school come together and learn from and teach one another was such a special experience. We can't wait to see what the next unit will bring!
L'hitraot!
