Seekers Updates 4/6-7

Kita Alef with Stephanie
What a fun silly time we had!
We learned about the letter Ayin and learned the melody to the Seder Song.
Everyone won a coloring sheet prize.
Be on the lookout for the prizes and homework on our Google Classroom.

Kita Bet with Batya
This week in Kita Bet, Morah Batya prepared us for the passover Seder. We learned the reasons for why we eat matza and maror. We remember the bitter times that our ancestors experienced and also all the miracles. We have hope for redemption in our times as well! We learned a special Passover song to remember the order of the seder. We had a very fun time connecting again as a class virtually.

Kita Gimmel with Yardena
This week we talked about what true freedom means. Are we absolutely free from responsibilities when we are free? Do we lose freedom as we grow up? We talked about the correlation between freedom and responsibility and debated it. In the last part of the class, we went over the order of the seder. We learned the song and made movements to go along with the song.

Kita Daled and Zayin with Heather
This week we dove deeper into exploring the Passover seder. We reviewed each item on the seder plate, recited the blessings that appear in the seder, and learned about different seder customs from Jews around the world. We reviewed the themes of the Passover seder and brainstormed how we can collectively experience freedom at a time when this passover celebration will feel very different from all other nights!

Kita Hey with Yonatan
This week at Seekers, we delved deeper into the ritual of the seder. We learned about each item on the seder plate and why we eat it, as well as the different stages of the seder. We reviewed each stage's meaning and went over the songs, tunes, prayers, and blessings of the main items. It was another great day!

Kita Vav with Stephanie
What a good time in class! We went deeper into the quote "None of us are free until all of us are free" by Emma Lazarus. We talked about the importance of solidarity between all groups who experience oppression of any kind. Many of us have intersections of multiple marginalized groups. If we're talking about the Passover story as Jews as slaves in Egypt, how can that inspire us to fight for the liberation of even marginalized groups that we're NOT a part of? How can that solidarity help us with our own marginalization? It was a great discussion!

Kita Zayin with Susanne
Yesterday, Kita Zayin had a lively pre-Pesach Zoom session with Susanne as a substitute for Heather.
The students demonstrated their sensitivity to ethical issues, from finding ways not to assign God a gender and a discussion about the implications of animal sacrifice. We used the chat feature to share insights about the Passover story.
The class knew their seder plate well, thanks to Heather’s previous instruction.
That students remembered “Pua” of the two midwives (the other one was “Shifra“) from their previous class proves the charm of certain exotic Hebrew sounds to our American ears!
We ended with a terrific video of Mayim Bialik giving a funny, informative survey of the Passover holiday.
