Seekers Updates 5/18-5/19: Torah Part 1

Kita Alef with Stephanie
Today, we learned our ah "hover board" vowels and our eh "egg vowels" and practices singing them with our aleph bet. Then we learned the difference between tet and mem, and ayin and tzaddi by watching some fun, interactive videos. We had everyone's favorite "Story Fairy" time! Where we learned about an adventure to find a missing Torah. And finally we learned about the 5 books of Moses from a puppet named Fella.

Kita Bet with Batya

This week, Kita Bet took a deeper dive into the Jewish Library. We learned that the Tanakh consists of 3 parts: The 5 books of Moses, the books of prophets and the book of writings such as literature, diaries etc. We understood that the Torah is so important to the Jewish people because it has so many teachings of ethics and values that are relevant to our lives in every generation and we have an obligation to always try to be the best versions of ourselves and make the world a better place.
After learning many interesting facts about the Torah, we played a fun Kahoot game with the rest of Seekers, led by Rabbi Elster. And guess what! Hiram, our classmate was on the leader board! Hooray!

Kita Gimmel with Yardena

This week we started with a gift giving improv game to create a sense of kindness and community. Following that we talked about the Tanakh. Learning what it stands for, what it means and what books are included in each part. We talked about different things the Torah has to offer us (rules, values, culture, connection with God), and discussed what part speaks to us the most and why we find value in it today.

Kita Daled and Zayin with Heather

This week we began what will be a two-week arc focusing on the Torah and Shavuot. This week we explored the "physical" side of the Torah- we learned what it's made from materials-wise, how Torahs are made, how many letters, parshiot, and books each Torah has, and more. We then explored the "what's" of Shavuot, the holiday at which we celebrate receiving the Torah, and learned about different practices and customs associated with the Torah. Students rejoined the full school community for a fun Kahoot quiz on Torah & Shavuot and our learners did great! We will continue next week with a look at the "hows" of the Torah- how we got it, what it 'means' in Jewish memory, and more.

Kita Hey with Yonatan

Today we learned about the framework of the Bible- we learned about the different books of the Bible and how many Torah portions the Bible is divided into. We also learned what elements are in the five Books of Moses -the Torah such as ancestral stories, laws and ethical codes.

Kita Vav with Stephanie
What fun today. We nailed it on the Kahoot quiz at the end of class. We learned about the 5 books of Torah, Moses, what Tanakh stands for, and some ideas about how, when, and why we read from the Torah on our B Mitzvahs!
