Welcome to our 2020-2021 School Year!
Seekers is still online but better than ever! We kicked off classes this week on Monday, October 19 with our first session. It was a wonderful first day back! We are still getting used to our new format and using Google Classrooms. It was wonderful to reconnect and practice gratitude with a special singing of Modeh/Modah/Odeh Ani led by Hazzan Basya.
Our first unit in Judaics is about developing our Social, Emotional and Spiritual Learning (SESL). We began with Community and Connection: establishing norms of behavior, getting to know each other, and creating sacred community.
Anavim class with Stephanie, used the story of Cain and Abel to discuss emotion regulation, patience, pace. Once student commented: "I definitely need a lot of time to myself to calm down. Otherwise it's harder for me to control my emotions and I lose my temper."
Te'enim class with rabbi Nadia spoke about creating a holy community. One student commented that the song by Dan Nichols, Kehilah Kedoshah was about "endless possibilities and how we all need to keep dreaming".
In our older Hebrew classes we are getting to know everyone's level to determine if they are in the right group and our two youngest classes have already begun learning letters.
We are off to a great start!
