Week 3 - November 2, 2020
Hazzan Basya joined us agin this week to open class with a song. So far we have learned Modeh Ani, a Hebrew Pronouns Song, and Elohai Neshama. Starting with a song in Hebrew from our tradition and learning its meaning is helping students with their Hebrew and familiarity with the Shabbat liturgy. Not to mention it's a fun and energizing way to begin class.
This week we capped off our unit in Social, Emotional and Spiritual learning through Jewish values by creating a class brit (covenant). This brit establishes norms and behaviors for each class so they can function well as a community and be respectful of each other's needs. Essentially putting the values learned in practice through their actions in class.
In order to make their brit, the Te'enim class, with Rabbi Nadia, discussed what their role in their various communities were so they could begin to understand some norms that might apply to their class community.
In Anavim, with Stephanie, there are a lot of Harry Potter fans, so she brought an applicable quote from Professor Dumbledore to start off the conversation, "It is our choices, Harry that show what we truly are, far more than our abilities." In response, one student said, "I agree with the quote, but our abilities to be good at treating each other well also matters. But I guess that's something you can work on." Great insights into enacting our values in our behavior.
Great discussions were had as we continued to learn and build our Seekers community.
