Week 11 - January 7, 2021

This week we began our unit on the Torah.

In Te'enim with Rabbi Nadia, we watched a video about a female soferet (scribe). One Te'enim student said, "It looks tiring to write a Torah!" Another student said, "Midrash is fan fiction!"

In Rimonim with Leilah, we each brought our favorite books and talked about why they were our favorite - exciting adventures, relatable characters, themes of overcoming challenges and helping family. Rimonim then talked about how the Torah is a little like the Jewish people's favorite book. We also watched a sofer talk about how to write a torah. One Rimonim student said, "The Torah has a bunch of Jewish stories that I don't know (yet)." Another Rimonim student said, "It takes so long to write a torah! Why not just use a Jewish typewriter?"

In Tamarim with Batya, we had an introduction
to the Torah. One Tamarim student said, "The letters in the Torah look different," while another student said "Yes, some of them have crowns on them!!!"

In Anavim with Stephanie, we learned how the Torah scroll is made. We also took a look at various ways a person might go about studying the week's Torah portion. One Anavim student said, "So it's like each book is a TV season and each portion is an episode?" while another student asked, "Are there vegan Torahs?"
