Week 17 - March 11th, 2021

This week in Seekers, we learned about the Holocaust. Mark Elster, Rabbi Elster's father, told students in grades 3-7 his story of suffering and survival as a child born in Poland just before the war. Students were very engaged in the story and asked thoughtful questions. It was a wonderful learning experience for all.

Our youngest class, Tamarim with Batya, did not join the group. Instead, they read a book called Tommy - written and illustrated for a 3 year old boy by his father during World War II. One Tamarim student said, "In this photo (photo of Tommy eating - and looking upset) Tommy looks angry. I want to help him by giving him nourishing food like bread." Another student said or wrote, "In this photo, (illustration of Tommy in his new home, in the Terezin ghetto - looking out the window of a gated wall) Tommy is looking out of the window, hoping to find his dad. I think Tommy is talking to the bird in the picture and asking if he can help bring his dad home."
