January 31st, Seeking Torah!

Our students continued their exploration of the stories in the book of Genesis (Bereshit) this week! Each class is learning four of the different stories in Bereshit and choosing one to focus on. At the end of the unit, each class will create a visual representation of the parasha they've focussed on. We are excited to invite the parents to come see their creations on February 28th!

This week Grace's class learned about Parashat Noach. Every student made their own tableau with loose objects such as popsicle sticks, pipe cleaners, and colored wax to illustrate the story of Noach. Afterwards, the class discussed what the lesson of the story was, whether God is perfect, and why the story ends with a promise to never destroy living things. Kuba explained that when God sent the rains, God destroyed not just bad people but innocent people and innocent animals. Clara helped the class grapple with this story by questioning whether it would even be possible for just Noah, his wife, and his children's families to repopulate the earth.

Arielle's class took on the challenge of retelling the story of Noah in their own words. Anna served as the class scribe, and Frank made some beautiful illustrations of the Ark.

Tali and Adira's classes focused on Parashat Lech Lecha where God tells Abraham to go forth to the promised land. Tali's class discussed the important values to prioritize when creating a community. Adira's class took the stage and put on a parasha play about the story of Abraham and Sarah.

Now for some Hebrew Highlights:
  • Grace's class is chugging along and moving up a level onto the next Hebrew book!
  • Emily's class learned the letter Yud and the way it operates with different letters!
We can't wait to continue diving into these stories next week!

L'hitraot!
